Under the scope of the Life Landscape Fire project, CIM Viseu Dão Lafões promoted a series of ‘Igniting Change’ workshops, the first of which, on the theme of ‘Demonstration of Good Practices’, took place on 17th April in the morning at the Mangualde Municipal Library.
The aim of this workshop was to share knowledge, results and techniques developed in the project, with regional and national relevance, and to publicise the preliminary conclusions of the project’s Replicability and Transferability Plan and the preliminary results of the socio-economic study.
The programme for the 17th of April session comprised a first part dedicated to the presentation of the results by the project partners, followed by a ‘round table’ with invited entities of regional/national relevance, which included the Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Commander of Viseu Dão Lafões, the Regional Director of Nature Conservation and Forests for the Centre of Portugal, the Vice-President of the Regional Coordination and Development Commission for the Centre of Portugal, the Head of the Nature and Environmental Protection Section of the Viseu Territorial Command of the GNR and the Head of the Forestry Planning and Management Service of the Junta de Extremadura.
The debate focused on the relevant action taken by each of the above-mentioned organisations to promote extensive grazing and the use of prescribed fire as important methods for preventing forest fires in the region.
