Workshop #3 – Act now

In the context of the LIFE Landscape Fire project, CIM Viseu Dão Lafões organised the third and final workshop of the ‘Igniting Change’ series on 22nd of May in Brussels, at the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the EU, on the theme of ‘Acting Now’, with the aim of presenting the main results of the LIFE Landscape Fire European project.

The opening session was addressed by Nuno Martinho, Executive Secretary of CIM Viseu Dão Lafões, and Ruben Castro Pereira, Attaché for the Environment and Forests at the Permanent Representation (REPER) of Portugal to the EU.

The main results of the project were presented by André Mota, head of the Intermunicipal Environment and Civil Protection Unit at the CIM Viseu Dão Lafões, followed by a round table discussion moderated by Teresa Presas, Senior Consultant at Magellan Circle.

The debate was attended by Humberto Delgado Rosa, Director for Biodiversity at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Environment, Ana Rocha, Director of EU Agricultural and Forestry Policies at the European Landowners’ Organisation, and João Silva, the Policy Officer at the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations, focusing on the value of extensive grazing and the use of prescribed fire as important methods for preventing forest fires, with the aim of implementing policies to support these methods and the importance of replicating them in other territories.
