LIFE Landscape Fire among the best of the LIFE Awards 2025

The European LIFE Landscape Fire project, designed, coordinated, and implemented by CIM Viseu Dão Lafões, was one of nine finalist initiatives recognized in the 2025 LIFE Awards. The final took place on June 3rd in Brussels.

Selected from approximately 150 projects, LIFE Landscape Fire stood out in the “Circular Economy and Quality of Life” and “LIFE Citizens’ Prize” categories, being the only one coordinated by Portugal – highlighting the merit of the work developed in the region.

This project promotes sustainable forest fire prevention practices, such as prescribed burning, grazing, and invasive species control. Throughout its implementation, it trained approximately 75 burn operators and 25 prescribed fire technicians, intervening in 250 hectares with practical actions. Additionally, it involved 30 technicians in the use of rural fire propagation simulators.
