Session for the Distribution of Equipment for Prescribed Burning Technicians

As part of the training session for Prescribed Burning Technicians, included in the Life Landscape Fire project, the Viseu Dão Lafões Intermunicipal Community held on July 5, a session for the distribution of equipment for Prescribed Burning Technicians. This initiative, which took place in the Multipurpose Building of Nelas, aimed to provide the prescribed burning technicians from the municipalities of the Viseu Dão Lafões CIM territory with personal protective equipment (PPE) and the necessary tools to implement prescribed burning activities.

This event was attended by mayors of the territory, prescribed burning technicians from the municipalities and the Secretary of State for Nature Conservation, Forests and Territorial Planning, João Paulo Catarino.
Among the equipment delivered are: portable meteorological stations, radios, tactical backpacks, computers, drip torches, as well as all the PPE’s that are indispensable for the pursuit of prescribed burning activities.
Prescribed burning is the use of fire under favourable environmental conditions, with recognized potential for fire prevention, through fuel management, and plays a decisive role in pasture renewal, soil fertilization, and habitat management. Technical training for its use is a factor of prime importance for its effective use.
