Awareness Raising on Invasive Species

On the 27th May, within the scope of the Invasive Species Week 2022 (SEI2022) and the “Life Landscape Fire” project, an awareness-raising action (interpretative walk) took place in a forest area at Monte de Santa Luzia, in Viseu, organised by the Intermunicipal Community of Viseu Dão Lafões and by Escola Superior Agrária of Viseu (” Agronomy School of Viseu”).

The aim of this initiative was to identify invasive plants in that location and to raise awareness among young people on this issue, with the participation of students from the Escola Profissional Mariana Seixas and the Agronomy School of Viseu.

Along the way, three invasive species were identified: Acacia dealbata, Acacia melanoxylon and Robinia pseudoacacia.

Invasive species are one of the main threats to biodiversity at global level. Avoiding their use and preventing their spread is the best solution.
