Webinar _The Prescribed Burning Beyond Forest Firefighting

The Intermunicipal Community (CIM) Viseu Dão Lafões, through its Intermunicipal Forestry Technical Office, promotes the 1st International Webinar| LIFE Landscape Fire 2020, to be held on the 15th, 16th and 17th December.

This forum, developed in the context of the LIFE Landscape Fire Project, aims to promote the debate and share experiences on issues such as forest fire prevention, biodiversity conservation, increasing forest resilience, empowering decision-makers regarding the benefits of prevention and actions to reduce the current territorial vulnerability of the region, among others.

CIM Viseu Dão Lafões is the promoter of the LIFE Landscape Fire Project, approved in the scope of the European LIFE Programme, developed in partnership with the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, the Regional Government of Extremadura, the Mancomunidad Integral Sierra de San Pedro and the University of Extremadura.

The LIFE Landscape Fire Project aims to contribute to the reduction of the impact of forest fires, both in terms of atmospheric carbon emissions and biodiversity loss, while reducing their economic and social impact.

For the Executive Secretary of the CIM Viseu Dão Lafões, Nuno Martinho, “With the organisation of the 1st International Webinar, the CIM Viseu Dão Lafões, seeks to take, a first step, towards the sharing and dissemination of knowledge resulting from the LIFE Landscape Fire project.”

“This type of initiatives and pilot projects that we have developed, within the scope of forest defense and conservation, seem to be a fundamental instrument to develop an effective inter-municipal policy for fire prevention and biodiversity protection in Viseu Dão Lafões. The LIFE Landscape Fire project is therefore essential for the development of an intermunicipal strategy in the field of forest management, environmental sustainability and civil protection”, concluded the Executive Secretary.

The seminar will include, among others, the participation of the Secretary of State for Nature Conservation, Forests and Territorial Planning, João Catarino, the Rector of the University of Extremadura, António Hidalgo, the Executive Secretary of CIM Viseu Dão Lafões, Nuno Martinho, as well as experts from different areas, including Lynn Huntsinger, Ana Belén Robles and Jean Paul Metailie

Registration for the seminar is free of charge, but compulsory, and should be done until the 14th of December, through the link: https://tinyurl.com/y4h48g43
