Workshop #2 – Expanding prevention with more perspectives

Under the Life Landscape Fire project, CIM Viseu Dão Lafões organised the workshop ‘Expanding prevention with more perspectives’, as part of a series of ‘Igniting Change’ workshops, which took place on the morning of 7th of May at the Madrid Higher Technical School of Forestry Engineers (of the Polytechnic University of Madrid).

The aim of this workshop was to share knowledge, results and techniques developed in the project, with regional and national relevance, and to publicise the preliminary conclusions of the project’s Replicability and Transferability Plan and the preliminary results of the socio-economic study.

The programme included a first part dedicated to the presentation of the results by the project partners, followed by a ‘round table’ with the participation of the Director General for the Prevention of Forest Fires of the Valencian Generalitat, a technician from the Junta de Extremadura’s Forestry Planning and Management Department, the Head of the Infrastructure, Forestry and Landscaping Department of the Junta de Andalucía, moderated by Fernando Pulido and Sebastián Hidalgo, from the University of Extremadura.

The debate, in addition to sharing experiences and actions implemented by the participants in each of their territories of operation, focused on the theme of valuing extensive grazing and the support that is being implemented/granted to shepherds by the Junta de Extremadura in their territory, with the aim of replicating this in other autonomous communities in Spain.
